SCOPH IN BRIEF WELCOME TO THE ORANGE WORLD!
The Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH) brings together medical students from all over the world to learn, build skills, cooperate, explore and share ideas when it comes to addressing all issues related to public health, including global health issues, health policies, health promotion and education activities. The Standing Committee on Studentsโ Health (SCOSH) was formed by IFMSA members in 1952, driven by a strong will to take an active part in preventing and making policies concerning health problems. During the following years, the wide variety of activities led to the change of SCOSH to the Standing Committee on Health (SCOH) in 1963. In 1983 the name of the Committee changed once more to the Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH). Ever since we started, SCOPHeroes all over Egypt have implemented a wide variety of community-based public health activities on a local, national and international level.

Vision
Medical Students attain the optimal skills and knowledge to contribute to their full potential towards the making of healthier communities in their capacity as medical students and as future healthcare providers.

Mission
The Standing Committee on Public Health promotes the development of medical students worldwide regarding Public Health issues through an international sharing knowledge network, projects management, community-based learning, capacity building, advocacy, exchanges placements and access to external learning opportunities.
Our Focus Areas & Projects

Climate Change
IFMSA-Egypt prides itself in being a sustainable organisation led by medical students. We recognise and believe the impact of climate change and the role we have as youth, and thus align our work with climate advocacy efforts. We have made it our national priority for the year 2022-2023, which allows us to align our work on both national and local levels across all standing committees and divisions. We have our own Recommendations for Sustainable & Climate Friendly Physical Events, which we utilise in our events, activities and meetings. We also have an Advocacy Working Group (AWG) leading our advocacy efforts with high-level organisations, including presenting our policy document and calls to action on climate change and health to relevant stakeholders, stressing on the importance of partnerships to achieve our common goals. This also includes representation in high-level meetings, including the COP27 and COY17 held in Sharm Elsheikh, Egypt.
Bridging Gaps in Health (BGH)
Bridging Gaps in Health (BGH) is a focus area aiming to promote innovation within healthcare advocacy. It aims to tackle existing gaps in healthcare through raising awareness about them and supporting initiatives that actively work on bridging them. It seeks to maintain advocacy efforts from medical students around Egypt by providing an inclusive scope for their work. However, it does focus on relevant topics for future healthcare workers such as climate change, antimicrobial resistance and universal health coverage.

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)
Non Communicable Diseases is a Focus Area that specifically idealizes the main concept of our Standing Committee, ๐ฃ๐๐ฏ๐น๐ถ๐ฐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐น๐๐ต. Our Ultimate Goal is the promotion of people’s health through prevention of the commonest diseases in our society by untraditional, holistic and more effective approaches. NCDs are among the most dangerous health problems in Egypt and many other countries. Many medical students are aware of NCDs and how they are treated, but not all of them are aware of how they impact public health and the health of the world. It is our responsibility to educate the public about these issues and the prevention of diseases, but first we must learn how to communicate these messages to equip future doctors with the knowledge they need to promote healthy living
Mental Health
The Mental health project deals with issues relating to mental health within the public. Topics such as depression, anxiety, OCD, and burnout are all subjects that we educate about and advocate for. Our goal is to raise awareness about the unfortunately varied troubles in society relating to mental health. We also aim to correct the misconceptions and stigmas that afflict our understanding or general knowledge about these topics. Besides educating and raising awareness about certain illnesses, we also cover an array of other topics which place mental health as an aspect of a much bigger issue. For example; we participate in Movember, an activity which uncovers many tragedies that men face including, but not limited, to their mental wellbeing. Moreover we move to add dialogue in discussions relating to our national priorities to explore a dimension of the issue that was previously hidden. In short; we are here to make the world a better place, one healthy mind at a time.

SCOPH Events
Standing committee on public health offers all SCOPHeroes a variety of opportunities to exchange experience, acquire skills and gain knowledge. This would truly help us to empower students all over the country and build a sustainable working environment. All these Events support the capacity building processes within SCOPH.ย
